The design direction was to maximise simplicity. The aspect that we focused on most was to create a new dimension and rhythm to the front of the building while keeping the dimensions of the existing fittings intact. The stairways on both sides of the building allowed us to add a new column of windows on each side. In this way, the original four windows on each floor became a total of six windows, giving a sense of symmetry and rhythm and producing a rigorous sense of order. This order also links to the east side of the building and ultimately encompasses the whole building, leaving a simple yet strong impression.
