Due to the limited building coverage ratio of 20% in the site, this results in the possible built area of 36m2 (except the basement floor), and this is why this small house was planned for 3 story structure. Instead of having the typical stair hall, we decided to build stairs that wind downwards like an alley to link the various floors. This leads to different floor levels for each room and bathroom with a different ceiling height at every room. Construction was slightly more complex than for other houses but the outcome was superb. The varying floor heights of each room offer rich spatial impressions that allow the eye to travel. And adjusting the height of each also enabled higher heights for south-facing rooms and lower heights for north-facing bathrooms. Also the stairs become spaces where the children can play or read.
